Gym 2 - Misty Cerulean City, Water-type : Nidoqueen struggles to damage Staryu just enough to win the matchup, as it only has Scratch available at this point; it can win against it, however, if it either outspeeds or is healed once. Kadabra outspeeds and outdamages with Confusion, and Nidoqueen should leave it alone, as it should Wartortle, which has the upper hand with Water Gun unless Nidoqueen already knows Body Slam.

Kangaskhan's four-hit Comet Punch is about as strong as Nidoqueen's Body Slam, so Nidoqueen is highly likely to win the matchup; Body Slam is an average 4HKO, and if Kangaskhan is paralysed along the way, winning will be easy. Sleep heals should be brought to this gym, as both Victreebel and Vileplume know Sleep Powder.
Nidoqueen can also beat Weezing with relative ease, as its Selfdestruct is only a 2HKO but clearly cannot be used twice. Rival Silph Co. Alakazam's Psychic is too much for Nidoqueen, which should not fight it. Charizard can be 3HKOed by Ice Beam too, which is super effective against it in this generation; the move 3HKOs Venusaur as well, but its Razor Leaf does the same and Venusaur might outspeed, so trying to win this matchup while Nidoqueen's health is low is not recommended.
Giovanni Silph Co. Mime and Venomoth with Ice Beam or Thunderbolt. The fight against Venomoth is likely to make Nidoqueen require healing, as Venomoth's Psybeam deals about as much damage, but Venomoth is also faster.
Rapidash is fast and may spam Fire Spin, preventing Nidoqueen from attacking, but if it eventually fails and Nidoqueen breaks through, the KO will come swiftly.
