Where to purchase exit through the gift shop

He feels the need to film anything and everything and soon understands the potential of this medium, especially associated with street art. Every night is a different adventure, forbidden and dangerous, trying not to be noticed by the police.

Thierry sees reality from a different perspective: a whole new urban world opens up before his eyes. He begins to get passionate and try to film and get to know all the greatest street artists. Guess who Invader introduces him to? Back in , Shepard was already the most prolific interpreter of street-art.

A long collaboration began between Shepard Fairey and Thierry, who followed him around the world during his artistic interventions, collecting thousands of hours of footage. His argument that everything should be recorded or else abruptly might get lost at any point in life seems reasonable but his thousands of tapes, that nobody would ever watch, piled up in his basement confirms the maladaptive nature of his behavior. His compulsive filming became a useful tool first when he met a street artist that he began to follow - filming every event of the artists creative process.

He sank deeper and deeper into the world of street artists and that became sort of an addiction to Thierry. He seemed to almost forget about his wife and kids. Exit Through the Gift Shop tells us as much about street artisting as it does about Thierry himself. Despite being, as he himself points out, "a ghost behind the camera", his character truly steals the show.

This is by no means a problem but rather enrich the story with a greater purpose. Thierrys meeting with Banksy and the following episodes poses a lot of interesting questions about what art really is, what it means to humans, what talent is made of and even about complex group behavior.

Despite being directed by a street artist and evidently put together from thousands of different tapes, Exit Through the Gift Shop is amazingly well directed. It doesn't feel hyped, it doesn't seem to lie or exaggerate the happenings and the fact that an interesting, motivated and special character gets to portrait everything from an outside view is fascinating to watch.

I love Mr. Brainwash, for the simple fact that he was smart about what he learned, and turned it in to profit. This is exactly why the guys in this film hate him.

Resent him. So here's a guy who creams knowledge from other established Street or Graffiti artists, turns that into a show of his own, creating art in the Andy Warhol style [point and direct others to do the work], had his own big show, and made a killing.

What kills these artsy guys he gleaned his skills from is that, he didn't pay his dues. Work his way up the ranks, no Brainwash went right to the top. And brainwashed all the art critics and collectors, via a LA Weekly article that gave him instant street cred. Tagging has come out of the dark ages. Marketing is king. There is something to be learned from this aw esome film. Watch it, and glean.

Read full review. This movie wasn't what i thought it was going to turn out to be. However I was very pleasantly surprised and satisfied after viewing it. If you are into documentaries and are looking for something for something different, check out this movie. An everyday average guy turns out to be a media sensation for becoming a street artist. It's unbelievable that he becomes so successful after such a short time period. Ironically the cameraman becomes the star of the film.
